About the Atlantic Puffin
The puffin has a penguin-like black and white suit with a colourful beak that changes colour with the seasons. The bill is grey in winter and when spring comes it takes on its iconic orange hue.
The puffin is about 25 cm tall and weighs about 0.5 kg.
They spend most of their lives at sea and only come ashore to breed.
When hunting, they dive underwater to a depth of 60 m,
catching herring and sand eel with their beak.
Like other seabirds, they live very long, with an average lifespan of 30+ years.
The oldest registered bird was 41 years old.
